ICEB Guidelines for all events:
All praise is due to Allah SWT, and may peace and blessings be upon His Messenger.
The Islamic Center of East Brunswick (ICEB) is honored to host events such as Nikah ceremonies and Wedding celebrations in the House of Allah SWT. In order to preserve the sanctity of the House of Allah SWT and uphold the adab befitting this sacred space, the following policy is now in effect for all events held at ICEB.
- ICEB WEDDING & EVENTS POLICY
Issued by the Office of the Resident Scholar
- DRESS CODE:
All attendees — men and women — are required to dress modestly and appropriately for the masjid environment.
✔️ Women must wear ḥijāb and modest clothing inside the muṣalla
✔️ Men must dress respectfully — no shorts, sleeveless shirts, or inappropriate attire
✔️ All guests are reminded that they are entering a place of worship, not a banquet hall
Anyone not meeting the dress code will; be respectfully asked to cover up before entering the muṣallā.
- GENERAL ADAB IN THE MASJID:
We ask all guests — Muslim and non-Muslim alike — to observe the following:
✔️ Speak at a reasonable volume; avoid loud communication in the muṣallā.
✔️ In the community hall; No Music, Nasheed, or playback video. Islamic video playback based on approval
✔️ Ensure children are supervised at all times
✔️ Remove shoes before entering the prayer area
✔️Men and Women must use their dedicated entrances to enter the muṣallā
✔️ Treat the space with the reverence it deserves as a house of worship
✔️ Photography and videography should be conducted respectfully and without disruption to others in the masjid
- FOOD & BEVERAGES:
❌ No food or beverages of any kind are permitted inside the muṣallā
❌ This includes sweets, cake, juice, and water bottles left on the floor
✔️ All food and catering must remain in the designated hall or outdoor areas
- POST-NIKĀḤ CONDUCT IN THE MUṢALLĀ
Following the completion of the nikāḥ ceremony:
✔️ The groom may place the ring on the bride’s finger
❌ Embracing, kissing, or any excessive public displays of affection are not permitted inside the muṣallā
The couple and their families are encouraged to celebrate fully and joyfully — in the appropriate venue for the reception.
- THE FLOWER WALL CURTAIN
The use of a decorative flower wall curtain during the nikāḥ ceremony in the main prayer hall is NOT permitted at ICEB. Only an artificial flower wall curtain is permitted in the basement.
- EVENT SCHEDULING & PRAYER TIMES
The salāh is the first priority of this masjid, and no event may interfere with the congregational prayers.
✔️ All nikāḥ ceremonies and events must be scheduled in windows between the five daily prayers
✔️ Setup, proceedings, and cleanup in muṣallā must be completed 15 minutes before the next adhān
❌ Events may not begin, continue, or occupy the muṣallā during adhān or salāh time
❌ No decorations, furniture, or equipment may block the prayer area or delay the congregation
The ICEB administration will confirm all bookings against the daily prayer schedule. It is the responsibility of the booking party to coordinate timing accordingly.
- ⚠️ ENFORCEMENT
ICEB takes the sanctity of this space seriously. Parties that fail to uphold the tenets of this policy may be charged up to $500. This fee exists not as a punishment but as a reflection of our collective responsibility to honor the masjid and all who worship in it.
All families booking events at ICEB will be required to review and sign this policy in advance.
