Resident Imam and Scholar

Alhamdulillah, the Islamic Center of East Brunswick is pleased to welcome Imam Safwan Eid as our Resident Imam and Scholar. Imam Safwan brings over fifteen years of dedicated service to the deen and Muslim communities across North America. He combines traditional Islamic scholarship, pastoral care, community leadership, youth engagement, and institutional development in a way that is deeply relevant to the needs of American Muslim communities.

His work has included religious leadership, youth development, hospital chaplaincy, interfaith engagement, counseling, education, fundraising, and the development of long-term community-building initiatives.

Imam Safwan’s vision for ICEB includes building educational programs rooted in the classical tradition, empowering youth with conviction and character, strengthening families through consistent pastoral care, and helping ICEB become a trusted and welcoming center for the broader community.

Education and Scholarly Formation

Academic Credentials

  • Master of Arts in Islamic Studies and Leadership from Bayan Islamic Graduate School.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Massachusetts Boston.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Studies and Human Rights from the University of Massachusetts Boston.

Traditional Studies

  • Studied Tafsir, Hanafi Fiqh, Tajweed, Usul, and Fatwa under Shaykh Talal Eid.
  • Studied theology, legal theory, logic, and Islamic philosophy with respected scholars.
  • Studied hadith, sirah, counseling, Islamic psychology, Quranic studies, and Arabic.

Languages

  • Native English speaker and experienced khateeb.
  • Advanced Arabic, strengthened through formal study and extended residence in Lebanon.
